The Language Center (LC) of Bangor College China (BCC) is a teaching institution which combines teaching, scientific research and training, aimed at creating a favorable English learning environment for students.

As a Sino-foreign cooperative institution, BCC requires students to have a good command of English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating skills as well as a satisfactory IELTS score. In keeping pace with the times, LC has innovated its teaching philosophy to produce all-round talents with practical skills. LC has introduced IETLS courses in listening, speaking, reading and writing respectively.

LC has three teaching teams currently: the Basic English teaching team that provides lessons of Basic and Comprehensive English; the foreign teacher team that provides lessons of English speaking and listening and academic English writing; and the IELTS teaching team that teaches IELTS preparation skills. With priority of teaching given to cultivating students’ comprehensive English skills, teachers have been dedicated to improving students’ ability of both working with others and learning by themselves, promoting the penetration of internet-based resources and multimedia into English teaching so as to spark the students’ desire to learn. On the one hand, the teachers’ leading role in teaching, and the students’ predominant role in learning should be strengthened so as to enhance students’ motivation in learning and help students develop good learning habits. On the other, the grasp of students’ competence and the differences among them is conducive to offering individualized advice and assistance.  

Dedicated to enhancing the internationalization of BCC, increasing foreign language teaching, learning and boosting scientific research, LC has worked out a scientific teaching system, providing the required materials and equipment for English learning and expanding English training for students and professionals. LC will forge ahead in the spirit of perseverance to improve itself and bring up more inter-disciplinary and international talents.
