II Learning Outcomes
Through 1.5-years systematic study from the Chinese curriculum, students will master 600 to 800 commonly-used Chinese words, phrases, and basic grammar rules,
which will empower them to pass the HSK Level 3 (corresponding to CEF B1 in Europe) and be able to use Chinese for daily communication in multiple life, study,
work and travel situations.
Students will be encouraged to take the HSK test and attain the HSK Level 3 or higher certificate which will be valid for the long term.
III Key Facts
The curriculum is centered on Chinese teaching with a combination of practical ability development and Chinese cultural introductions. It sticks to the
principle of “listening and speaking lead the way, reading and writing follow”, under which it provides comprehensive primary Chinese courses as core
modules, with speaking and listening courses as skill modules. In addition, the Chinese culture experiential modules and language practice activities, which
supplement with a large amount of Chinese idioms and daily expressions, are offered to cultivate the students’ communicative competence, Chinese cultural
awareness, and Chinese comprehensive application ability.
The language practice activities endeavor to help students learn more about Chinese and enhance application ability by means of various forms such as exchange
activities between Chinese and foreign students, off-campus visits, interviews, and Chinese language contests (Pinyin contest, character contest, Chinese
speech contest, etc.).
The Chinese culture experiential modules aim to introduce a wide variety of Chinese cultures including Chinese calligraphy, painting, tea art, martial arts,
etc. Students will attend various cultural lectures, go sightseeing at the Changsha Bamboo Slip Museum, Orange Island Park, Yuelu Academy, Hunan Embroidery
Museum of China, Changsha Tongguan Yao Porcelain Site, etc.
